The Safe Schools Act, 2000 requires that school boards are in
compliance with the Act and its regulations.Statement of Policy
The Peel District School Board is committed to providing a safe
learning and working environment and preserving the integrity ,of the
instructional day for students and staff. The Board recognizes that
control of access to school premises under its jurisdiction shall be in
accordance with the provisions of s.212 and s.265(m) of the Education Act,
s.305 of the Safe Schools Act, 2000 and Regulation 474/00. The Board
further authorizes principals or their designate to exercise rights as
occupiers under the provisions of the Trespass to Property Act. Access to
school premises during after school hours shall be governed by Policy 42,
Use of Facilities.
Requirements
- The Board recognizes that the following persons are permitted to be
on school premises:
- A person enrolled as a pupil
- A parent or guardian of such a pupil
- A person employed or retained by the board
- A person who is otherwise on the premises for a lawful purpose
(e.g. delivering mail, voting)
- A person who is invited to attend an event, a class or a meeting
on school premises provided the person is on the premises for that
purpose
- A person who is invited onto school premises for a particular
purpose by the principal, a vice-principal or another person
authorized by the Board policy provided the person is on the premise
for that purpose
- Persons authorized to be on school premises are not entitled to have
access to all areas of the school premises
- The Board has the right to lock the school premises when the
premises are not being used for a purpose authorized by the Board
- An authorized person is not allowed to remain on school premises if
in the judgement of the principal or
designate, his or her presence is considered detrimental to the safety
or well being of a person on the premises
- An authorized person is not permitted to remain on 5chool premises
if he or she fails to report their presence on the prernise5 in the
manner 5pecified in the school's Code of Conduct
- The principal or designate shall exercise the rights of the Board as
an occupier under the provisions of the Trespass to Property Act, the
Education Act s.265(m), the Safe School5 Act, 2000 s.305(4)(5) and
Regulation 474/00 s.3 with respect to an individual determined to be in
non-compliance with provisions of the policy.
