This page is designed to keep parents, students and teachers up
to date on decisions made by the school council. School Councils
are mandated by the Government of Ontario. A school council is
an advisory body to the school administration. It is composed of
representatives from parents, school staff, students and the
community together with the principal.Relationships between
schools and their communities can be strengthened through the
establishment of local school councils which serve as a means of
improving student learning and school effectiveness. School
councils exist to provide parents, staff, students and community
representatives with a more responsible and active role in
education programs and services within their local community.
As well, school councils can also
promote positive attitudes toward both the education of students in
the school and public education in the community, effective two-way
communication between home and school, and increased parental
participation in the education of their children.Bramalea
School Council
Bramalea Secondary School has had an advisory committee of
parents in operation for a number of years. It is open to any
parent/guardian who wishes to attend. Meetings are scheduled four
times each school year. Meetings are normally held in the School
Library Information Centre from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. See Calendar
Section - Dates to Remember for
specific dates.
The Council elects six parents, one elected teacher, one elected
student, one elected non- teaching staff member and one appointed
community representative but welcomes all other interested parents,
staff and students to its meetings. The main purpose of the Council
is to bring together the home, the school and the other educational
forces in the lives of our students, to work collaboratively for
their success. We share developments at the school and conditions in
the community that affect our
young people. Public support for Bramalea is actively promoted by
making parents more aware of their role and increasing their
knowledge of our programs and policies.
The Bramalea School Council and the staff hope to plan a special
community-oriented program on a theme deemed important each meeting.
Please consider attending one or all meetings this year. We welcome
your involvement.
PIease call Mrs. Weaver at (905) 793-2400 if you are interested
in serving and can attend.
Please note that all School Council meetings take place in the
School Library Information Centre. To contact a Council Member, please phone
the Principal. |
